It's been a long journey for Nonie Darwish. She was born into a Muslim family, and brought up in the Islamic culture of us versus them, reverence for jihad - and slander against non-Muslims, especially Jews. Her father was a prominent Egyptian army officer.

But something felt wrong. As a young woman, Nonie was totally unhappy with her life until she made the best decision in her life - to go to the United States.

She discovered a totally different world - where for the first time she learned she was equal. She also learned to face the lies she had been brought up to believe, most of all the slanders against non-Muslims and especially Jews that continue to the present.

She loves the truth.

But it wasn't easy for her to face the truth, and dare to leave Islam.

How long did it take? Seventeen years.

Now she's written 3 books, starting with, Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and the War on Terror. In it, she traces her personal journey, and uses her experiences to reveal what she has learned to see about Islam and Islamic culture.

Her most recent book is The Devil We Don’t Know: The Dark Side of Revolutions in the Middle East. Knowing what she did about Islam made her less than optimistic about the so-called Arab Spring.
