FIRED FOR BELIEVING
IN FREEDOM

Chris Knowles is the local hero of the month. In other words, he's not one of the most famous counter-jihadis, but he's done a lot of important work.

Since 2007, he's been a director of the International Civil Liberties Alliance (ICLA), a human rights organization for democracy, freedom and individual liberty. Very moderate goals, one would think - except that a particular focus is sharia.

Recently Chris was fired from his city's Children’s Services Department, with no grounds given except that his values were not those of the department.

No due process, nothing.

Yes, the firing is being appealed.

But it should never have happened - it's against the law.

A big question: in what country did this happen?

Great Britain.

When?

2012.


Others openly believe in Sharia - which includes belief that a woman's word counts for half a man's - and keep their jobs.

Chris Knowles, in a supposed democracy, believes in mainstream Western values like democracy and freedom of speech ... and has been fired.

The country, once again: England. The year, once again: 2012.


What has Chris done? He helped organize a series of international conferences for ICLA. He helped develop the organization's mission statement. And he's played an important role in formulating the 2012 Brussels Declaration To Safeguard Individual Liberties and Human Rights. 

Freedom of expression, according to Chris - this is the most important component of any free society. 

He became involved in upholding this - and because of this, opposing Sharia - in the aftermath of the Danish cartoon crisis when the suppression of free speech became a serious problem.

How serious the problem is became even more apparent when he was fired.
